http://www.theverge.com/2012/4/19/2959530/playstation-suite-developer-program-open-beta-start

just be aware that this doesn't make it so you can contribute to the PlayStation Suite ... you'll need to pay a yearly fee of $99 if you wish to publish stuff and will need to go through a bunch of requirements before you'll be able to place content on the PlayStation Store.

so people can possibly make their own games and distribute them through the interwebz without interference from Sony ?

Probably not, a developer account is required to get your apps packaged and able to get them to run on other systems.

This is the same thing that makes it so developers for any other system have to deal with Sony for their content to be playable on Sony's systems.

If people don't want to deal with Sony, then they should pick another platform.

@Jesse, just out of curiosity, if someone is a developer and purchases permission to distribute games on ps suite, is there a set programming language that the developer must code their game in?

the SDK download is free ... you pay if you wish to make your applications/games able to be shared/purchased.

so i can play my own games free ? or is it to use the full free ps suite i can only play games that is on there store . well i am thinking of paying for the developer licence , i had made a couple of games , using multimedia fusion 2 years ago and by seeing the ps suite ui composer , it looks quite similar , so paying for developer is for via one person or can it be for a group like i have

you'll want to read the terms of obtaining a developer account and avoid the activities that would get your account revoked.

Well then it wouldn't be considered homebrew, would it? Besides, just because they pay the fee, doesn't mean that their content is guaranteed to be put on the PS Store. Sony has to approve it.

i didnt even think that it wouldnt be homebrew anymore......
so they approve the content which means a prevention of thier exploits from being disributed
EDIT:did you not see the part where i said with sony's permission

I doubt that would happen, emulation isn't officially supported for any non sony system and roms are extremely unlikely.

a company like Sony isn't going to help people get games for free, they need to look out for the content's original owners and this would be horrible move to make.

now if they make it so that Nintendo can publish old games to their store ... they could, but you and I both know that Nintendo will never do that.

being practical about what this open developer program means ... anyone can make games and get them published via a well known name like Sony. it'll cost you money and you will need to have your app approved as do all reputable app stores, but the key is that a developer can get stuff to customers without needing backing from a publisher.

i mean for like old consoles that have long been discontinued
and mabey have a small fee for said emulators and games to pay the original creators back

Well that is what the PSN currently is doing, but it isn't really an emulator. they are just making the games compatible to be run on newer hardware. each game can have it's own launch software so no matter where it comes from it will run on new hardware.

The only strings that need to be tied are hooking up old games to new methods of controlling them.

This method is entirely plausible, but the developer of the game needs to do the work or commission someone else to do it. It won't be free, and there won't be a centralized emulator "app" that will be used, as it isn't even needed.

your right jesse just update the controls, then convert the rom to eboot or whatever the sony system uses for executables
