I enjoyed my time in Final Fantasy XIII. While I disliked the game’s highly linear nature, and some melodramas in cutscenes, the game is outstanding. From excellent battles to ultra gorgeous graphics, Square still knows how to deliver in most aspects. While most people only focus on the linear structure of the game (especially series veterans), you have to open your eyes and see more. Not the graphics, they are a nice threat, but the great gameplay, which has evolved a lot, while being most of the same. It is impressive, as battles are fast paced and seamless, they still remind a lot of the PS One or SNES games. Final Fantasy XIII may have a harder time to get into some people, but it’s ultimately a good game, and you should know to appreciate that.
Presentation: 5 out of 10
Yes, story and characters are great; showing Square still knows how to deliver in this aspect. However, bad villains and highly linear progression may put down many. Like me.
Graphics: 10 out of 10
You know, after playing this game, you’ll ask yourself why every other game does doesn’t look as beautifully as this one. I suppose I could give the game a 9.5 because some rough edges, details and animations, but that would be trolling. You have to see the game to believe it. Even Non-HD is gorgeous.
Sound: 8.5 out of 10:
While it wasn’t enough to blow me, the score does have some memorable tracks, such as Saber’s Edge, or Born Anew. The Voice Acting is great, and sound effects are normal yet cool.
Gameplay: 9 out of 10
You’ll have fun playing with this battle system. Although the first couple of hours of the game are uninteresting, just wait for the rest of the game. High strategy and reflexes required and satisfying gameplay is guaranteed.
Longevity: 9 out of 10
Final Fantasy XIII is a long game, could take 40 hours to beat. But it’s one of those games that, while long, you’ll want to play again if you liked, to test yourself and see the marvelous cutscenes again.
Overall: 8.6 out of 10
No doubt Final Fantasy XIII is an outstanding, large, and rewarding game. It may turn down some people, and leave them disappointed. But if you are not one of them, then enjoy this rich and satisfying ride.
